What Are the Scottish Dance Awards?

The Scottish Dance Awards are a brand-new initiative celebrating the remarkable achievements of dance schools, educators, and rising stars across Scotland. These awards are all about honouring excellence in teaching, innovation in dance education, and impactful community engagement. From passionate teachers and creative choreographers to the schools shaping the future of dance, the awards shine a well-deserved spotlight on those making a difference in Scotland’s vibrant dance community.

This was the very first year of the awards, and we’re incredibly proud of Miss Charlotte and her babyballet Lanarkshire Central team for being a part of such a meaningful and inspiring launch.

The Entry Process

After being nominated, Miss Charlotte described how she completed a detailed application process that included submitting evidence-based information to showcase how her babyballet school met the criteria for the nominated category. This extensive but fulfilling journey, allowed Miss Charlotte and her team to reflect on their work and the impact babyballet has had on pre-schoolers in their corner of Scotland.

Outstanding Pre-School Dance Education

The Outstanding Pre-School Dance Education award recognises a school, teacher, or programme committed to nurturing a love of dance in children during their earliest years. It focuses on creativity, foundational skills, and the joy of movement – everything that lies at the heart of what babyballet is all about.

Winning this award is a true reflection of the passion and dedication that this team put into every little star in every babyballet class.

Meet the Judges

babyballet Lanarkshire Centrals’ work was reviewed by a panel of esteemed professionals from the dance industry:

• Joanna Harte – Choreographer, director, and Lead Senior Examiner for Trinity College London with over 30 years in the arts.
• Constant Vigier – Acclaimed French dancer, choreographer, and filmmaker with international experience from Paris Opera Ballet to Scottish Ballet.
• Lynsey Brown – Former global performer and now Entertainment Director at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, shaping the future of dance entertainment behind the scenes.

The Ceremony

The glittering awards ceremony took place on Sunday 18th May 2025 at the Radisson Blu in Glasgow. Sponsored by industry leaders including Class For Kids, The Dance Business Coach, IDS, The Dance Education Collective, and I Dance Informa, the event brought together hundreds of passionate dance professionals from across Scotland.

It was a night full of joy, support, and inspiration – a true celebration of everything that makes the dance world so special.

“When our name was called I was shaking but beaming from ear to ear. I went straight back to the table and messaged my wonderful team straight away! The messages since have come flooding in and haven’t stopped!

 

We all work hard every day for 12 years to support tiny dancers in their first steps into the dance world and it is an incredible honour to receive this award on behalf of the team, our thousands of dancers both past and present and for babyballet itself!” – Miss Charlotte
