Picnic Planning Tips for Grown-Ups
Sometimes, the very best picnics are the simplest ad-hoc ones. Just heading outside with your little ones and their teddy bears can be a great way to start an exciting imagination-fuelled adventure!
Wondering where to head to for the perfect picnic spot? Your local park or beach can be a great place to explore a little further afield. Don’t fancy venturing too far? Your garden (or even the living room rug on a rainy morning) can offer just as much fun without the need for travel.

What Should I Pack for a Picnic?
Picnic-ing with little ones in the summer months? Take a look at our handy picnic checklist:

Twinkle & Teddy Activity Ideas
In addition to the yummy treats, you could also play some babyballet inspired games or plan some bear-themed activities for your picnic.
Teddy Bear Hide & Seek
Oh dear! Teddy has been up to mischief again!
Hide small bears around the area and see how many your little star can find. Fancy adding an extra challenge? Give your child a time-limit to see how many they can find. Once they’ve collected them all, can they hide the bears for the grown-ups to find?
Twinkle Bear Dancing Games
Bring a portable speaker and play your little star’s favourite babyballet tunes! Why not make it into a game of musical statues? Who can hold their balance and stand as still as a statue when the music stops?
Don’t have a speaker? No problem! Sing-along to your child’s favourite babyballet class action songs.
Twinkle’s favourite? Wind the bobbin up and Dingle Dangle Scarecrow!
Story Time with Twinkle and Teddy
Get cosy on your picnic blanket, find some shade and snuggle-up for story time. Bring your little star’s favourite books along to the picnic to share together. Our favourite? Twinkle and Teddy in the Rainforest of course!
Teddy Bear’s Picnic Snack Ideas
Arguably the stars of the show when it comes to toddlers and a teddy bear’s picnic… the snacks!
Here are some Twinkle and Teddy inspired healthy and balanced snack ideas for little ones:
Bear-Shaped Sandwiches

- Soft cheese and cucumber slices
- Banana and smooth peanut butter
- Ham and cheddar

- Egg mayonnaise and cress
Finger Foods & Dip-Dip
No need to overcomplicate a teddy bear’s picnic with cutlery… Finger food works best!
Fill a lidded contained with a variety of vegetables such as carrots, peppers, celery and cucumber cut into batons. Add a pot or two of your favourite dips such as hummus, yoghurt, cottage cheese or guacamole and get dipping! You could also add fingers of pitta bread, breadsticks and cheese too.
Particularly for younger eaters, remember to follow safe food preparation guidance, e.g., soft-cooking hard vegetables batons such as carrots. Find out more about safe food preparation guidance on the First Foods for Babies Starting Solids – Solid Starts website.
Cheesy Twirls
Pirouettes in pastry form! Why not transform a pack of ready-made puff pastry into some tasty cheesy twirls? You could add tomato puree and oregano or spread a thin layer of yeast extract for a little extra kick!
Got some pastry left-over? Whip up a batch of Teddy’s favourite picnic snack… Sausage rolls!
Tutu-Fruity Pots
Find the prettiest little cupcake cases to make your tutu-fruity nibbly pots. Perfectly portioned, pick-up-and-go fruit salads are a great sweet option for a summer’s day. You can fill with your little one’s favourite fresh fruits such as strawberries, blueberries and melon. Fancy something even sweeter? Sprinkle a small handful of chocolate buttons or flaked almonds into your fruity pots!
