Are you curious about bringing your child along to a babyballet class and what to expect? In this guide, we answer the most frequently asked questions about babyballet, providing all the details you need to make your child’s baby ballet journey fun, exciting, and memorable…
Q1: At what age can my child start ballet?
Your child is welcome to join our Tots class from the age of 6 months old. We often get asked, ‘Can babies really do ballet?’ and the short answer is, yes! Take a look at this post to find out more about the benefits of ballet for babies.
We have classes for children from 6 months up to 6 years old:
babyballet Tots: 6 to 18 months
babyballet Tinies: 18 months to 3 years
babyballet Movers: 3 to 4 years old
babyballet Groovers: 4.5 to 6 years old
babyballet Tappers: 3 years + (You can choose to join our tap classes which run alongside the Movers and Groovers classes)
babyballet Shine: Our SEND specific class is suitable for children pre-school, early years and KS1. Please get in touch with your local babyballet school to find out more.
Q2: What should my child wear to class?
We encourage you to bring your little one in something comfortable for moving in, for example, leggings and a t-shirt. Although our beautiful babyballet uniforms will never be compulsory, they’re rather cute and have been carefully designed with your little one’s comfort and delight in mind. Browse our popular range of tutus, ballet shoes, hoodies and more here!
For safety reasons, we do not allow children to dance in their socks. Our super-soft range of dance shoes are perfect for class. Ask your child’s dance teacher for more information and a 1:1 fitting.
Q3: Do we need to bring anything to class?
We recommend bringing a bottle of water for class along with something suitable for your child to wear on their feet.
In the colder months, your little one may want to bring warmer layers that can remove once they’ve warmed up. Explore our cosy range of knitwear, ankle warmers and super-soft hoodies.
Planning on bringing the pram but unsure about venue accessibility? Get in touch with your local babyballet teacher who will be happy to help.
Q4: What happens in a babyballet class?
We know that little ones thrive on routine and repetition and that’s why you’ll hear the same familiar warm-up and goodbye song in every class. Our teachers follow a new part of the syllabus each term that builds-up a new set of familiar songs, actions and routines.
If you’re coming along to our Tots or Tinies classes, be prepared to join in! At this young age, your little one looks to you for guidance – and trust us, you’ll have lots of fun too!
Q5: How much does babyballet cost?
Our class prices vary across different regions and countries. You can find out more information about the classes nearest to you by searching for your local babyballet school here.

Fun and enjoyment are at the heart of what we do. ‘Joining in’ can look very different from child to child and that’s 100% okay. Whether they’re taking in the activity from side of the room or doing their own thing but enjoying the catchy tunes, your child is welcome to take their babyballet experience at their own pace.
Our 3-week trial is a great way to try out our classes before booking a term.
Q7: Is my child’s dance teacher qualified?
We choose every one of our babyballet teachers with the upmost care. All babyballet teachers have previous dance experience and qualifications and share in our values of being caring, supportive and creating a fun environment for children.
Q8: How can ballet benefit my child?
From supporting their motor skills development, to helping your child to gain-confidence, have fun and make friends, our babyballet classes offer so many benefits for your child. Read more about the benefits of ballet and dance for children here.

Top Tips for Your First Class
- Dancing can be thirsty work! Bring along a bottle of water and a healthy snack for after class.
- Arrive early if you can. This will allow you time to park, find your venue, and will give your little one time to settle in the new environment. It’ll also give you the chance to meet and chat to grown-ups before the class too.
