Believe it or not, there are lots of different types of Ballet shoes nowadays:

• Full Sole: Offer stability and support which is good for newbies.
• Split sole: Where the toe and the heel have separate soles, for stronger, more mature feet.
• Demi-Pointe: Designed for advanced classes to train and strengthen for Pointe work.
• Pointe Shoes: For highly trained and experienced dancers.
• Ballet Boot: Intended for classes and/or male dancers.
• Canvas Shoes: Used for practicing and more mature, stronger feet.
• Character Shoes: Used for exploring styles of dancing from other countries in ballet classes, usually from around Grade 2 onwards, including Hungarian and Russian.

It’s so important to make sure your little one has good-fitting ballet shoes to prevent injuries, and discomfort and so they can point their toes beautifully!

Measuring your little star’s feet is quite simple… 

There are a couple of methods you can use.

1. Use a tape measure to measure the width and length of your child’s feet. Always measure from the widest point where the toe knuckles are and from the longest point from the tip of the longest toe to the bottom of the heel.
2. Shoe measurement device at a shoe store. Any big shoe store will have one and the assistants should be happy to help you. If your child puts their foot in barefoot, use the gliders just to touch their toes, heel, and sides of the foot.
3. Child not standing still? Foot measurement device too scary? Make a fun game by tracing around the foot and measuring the drawing. Then your child can make the drawing into a fun foot character!
